this is the first image of a series that i’m currently working on called, a field guide. each week i’ll pick an object or a color, make a still life and photograph it. this will go on for one year (if I can keep it up). I’d like to capture the seasons in this series as a way to talk about transformation and change.
It’s been a while since I last posted.. I’ve been very busy with teaching, but the term just ended and I finally have some breathing room. Here’s a photo of the Tucci’s from our last trip to California. It was so good to see everyone and I had so much fun! Joey had his Prom and so I was able to take some pre-Prom pics, which was a blast…It’s always great to take pictures of the family because they know me, so I can get those super relaxed candids.
Mario and Dona’s Wedding was incredible… their love was palpable and I was absolutely moved by it. Walker Creek Ranch in Marin County was a perfect venue for their ceremony, which was a mash-up of a variety of rituals. I was honored to be there and to have the job of capturing the intimate moments of this very special day.
Congratulations Dona & Mario! I send you both my best wishes for an incredibly rich life together!
Anyway, my news is three-fold: Anthony and I are to “tie-the-knot” next year! Yay!! ; Hosanna the (Dalai) Llama is finally here on the farm ; and last but not least I just started my teaching (beginning drawing) job at Umpqua Community College.
Last night I began a series of works on paper in order to stay personally engaged in my own dialogue with drawing while teaching this class. I’m inspired.
My next adventure will be to travel again to San Francisco on the weekend of October 27th and shoot Dona and Mario’s wedding!
I have some good news, which I will tell once I return from Southern California.
I’m so glad to be home! I did have a wonderful trip to the Bay Area though and I loved seeing the Tucci’s, the Mangrums, Lori Paladino and my Papa and his wife, Veloise. There was a wedding marathon on Friday and Saturday with Lori. It was great to work with her again and I learned a lot. The Friday night wedding was at the Kohl Mansion in Burlingame, which was an amazing venue. The following day Lori and I drove to Napa (another beautiful place to photograph) to shoot the second wedding. We didn’t get back home until midnight Saturday night and I was totally exhausted. I woke up on Sunday morning, downed a cup of coffee and went straight to my Dad’s house. He’s in the process of moving and we needed to bring some things to storage. While he was going through his things he found an old school folder of mine, which had on it’s cover a photograph of me at the age of 7 or 8. My hair looked uncombed and I had my 80’s collared T-shirt tied all the way up to my chin. I think that photo was taken just after my older sister decided to give me a haircut! The bangs were definitely crooked. The point is that I didn’t care at all what I looked like, but the result was what it was always going to be. It’s very simple. I loved looking at our family photo albums and seeing the candid images, the pictures where we were all just being ourselves. Right there and in that spot, is beauty.
Congratulations to the two very sweet couples I had the opportunity to photograph last weekend! My very best wishes go out to all of you.
Hello. It’s been a full weekend and come Wednesday I’ll be off to California again to shoot two weddings over the Labor Day Weekend. The week started off with with a trip to the coast to catch crabs. My neighbor was getting rid of her crabnets and so we lucked out.. I ended up catching 3 crabs! Anthony caught 3 more and then we were off to the U-Pick Blueberry farm, where we picked two coffee cans full of sweet sweet berries! Living in Oregon has it’s benefits. I’m a little sad to leave the farm, but I can’t wait to see my friends and family in California and the weddings should be a blast. Before I can blink three times, I’ll be back home.
On Saturday, July 21st I was in San Francisco, California to shoot Deborah & Joe’s Wedding. They had their ceremony and reception under the rotunda at the Palace of Fine Art. I would say that the venue was the perfect compliment to the themed wedding where guests came dressed as their favorite artist or work of art. I must say that from 3-10pm I wished I had at least eight more eyes, arms and cameras! The photographic moments where everywhere present and I was shooting away! My 2nd Camera-Person and Partner extrordinaire, Anthony Szlachciuk, was snapping away as well and got some amazing shots.
